English
-Persuasive essay good copies are due this Friday
-Please add in corrections/suggestion I made to your rough copies

Math
-"Round and Round" assignment due Thursday
-Unit Test - Transformations is on Wednesday

Learning Goals:

– Plot ordered pairs (points) using all four quadrants of the Cartesian coordinate plane
- Identify the origin (0,0), label x-axis (horizontal) and y-axis (vertical)
– Identify, perform, and describe dilatations (i.e., enlargements and reductions by a scale factor)
– In general: create and analyze translations (slides), reflections (flips), dilatations (enlargements/reductions), and/or simple rotations (turns) of two-dimensional shapes

-Two-step translations (i.e. - six units left, four units down)

-Reflections across the x-axis and y-axis
-Reflections across a line of reflection/mirror line

-Rotations with the turn center/center of rotation/fixed point on a vertex
-Rotations with the turn center outside of the shape
-Rotations around/about the origin

-Understand and relate common rotations to fractions of a turn (90 -1/4, 180 – 1/2, 270 – 3/4, 360 – whole turn)

-Labeling transformations using prime and double prime symbols (i.e.- ABC – pre-image, A’B’C’ – image,  A’’B’’C’’ )

-Vocabulary: vertices, ordered pairs, Cartesian co-ordinate systems, quadrants, transformations, translations, reflections, rotations, dilatations, prime’ and double’’ prime symbols, x-axis, y-axis, pre-image, image, vertex, clockwise (CW), counterclockwise (CCW), mirror line/line of reflection, turn centre

-Solve problems involving transformations (i.e. – working backwards to find the initial position of a polygon)

Geography
-Natural Disaster presentations start Wednesday
